Rumors about famous brands spread like wildfire. Especially when we’re talking about one of the biggest companies in the world. Information about Microsoft letting go of the Windows name have been going around for over a year now. However, recently those rumors have been renewed and attention has to be paid to one of the most famous brand names, which we’re using on a daily basis. The points discussed, which lead to the debate around Windows, are actually easy to perceive.
Everyone remembers the clean and user-friendly Windows XP. But where have things gone from there? Windows Vista was released in time when iPhones and iPads were gaining popularity and success was definitely not as big as expected. As lots of people drew back from using the Windows OS, returning the customers trust in the brand became a difficult task. This is probably why last year rumors were spread about a new OS but this time not part of the Windows brand. Can you imagine having a Microsoft OS on your PC and it not being called Windows-something? Well, we weren’t surprised when Windows 8 was released this year. After all, sales probably wouldn’t be as high as they are (though not sure whether they are actually high…) if the OS’s name was different. It’s too soon to tell whether the software is decent, although there are a lot of mixed comments on the topic. However, people are thinking – wouldn’t it be better if Microsoft focuses on a different brand name for their operating systems for tablet and mobile computing? After all, when you hear about a Windows 8 for a Microsoft Surface tablet, you will be expecting a lot because of the brand name and then will be disappointed, of course.
It’s difficult to move away from a brand that is an essential part of the company, but Microsoft have done this before with Xbox. So what do you think? Should their operating systems be called Windows in the future or a new name should be established in order to separate the systems and functions?
